Some pictures from NYC

Here are some pictures from the street fair - that's my liddle bro David and Rach, and the lake in central park - note the apartment block they used in Ghost Busters, which (as my bro says) you can see easily from the park, but try and walk along central park west and find it, and you can't... spooky... ;^)

so good they named it twice (and other clichés)...

Well - after a number of really great farewells, and a very sad goodbye to friends, family and the ocean, I'm here...

And so far it's been mainly settling in - I've seen more of the Container Store, Bed Bath and Beyond and the Cingular cell phone store than anything else! But what that means is I don't have to dig to the bottom of my incredibly well packed suitcase (thanks Dad!) to get to my clothes. I'm the proud owner of a snazzy wardrobe rack, some container store shelving things and a shoe rack - all very portable for when I eventually find my own place.

But it hasn't all been unpacking and resume writing - my brother Dave and his girlfriend Rach have had a large number of social engagements that I've tagged along to, and met some great people from the nyc burner community.

I've also had my very first visitor (sorry to those of you who were hoping to claim that title). Om David (also known as Om Brewok to some of you) my old boss and lecturer from the Indonesian Dept of UNSW was in town doing some research for his latest book, and we caught up for drinks at a very nice bar called Sugar down on 82nd street. It was a rare quiet night for them, but I'll be going back for the music at some stage in the not too distant future!

Also met my first independent friend (ie not connected to my bro). Had lunch with Gustavo - an old friend of my friend Ravit's - and we got on really well, which was great.

And did a very NY thang.. went to a street fair. Not just any street fair either. The first weekend Dave, Rach and I went to the Columbus Ave Street Fair - beautiful weather, and great food - I held out all the way down the street until we reached the New Orleans Restaurant and I had jambalaya.

So I'm sure there'll be more exciting news to come, but probably less writing than the last blog - not so many exciting and new things being squeezed into every day when you've moved somewhere rather than travelling - sorry traveling - gotta learn to spell American ;^)
